IPA – American: Bells Two Hearted Ale

This Mid-Week beer is one I enjoyed very much in America. The infamous Bell’s Two Hearted Ale. A very popular beer amongst the online beer community and I had to see what all the fuss was about! Also the fact that this beer comes from a place called Kalamazzoo appeals to me in a strange way. Anyway, back to beer!

Let’s start with Bell’s description of this brew:

Bell’s Two Hearted Ale is defined by its intense hop aroma and malt balance. Hopped exclusively with the Centennial hop varietal from the Pacific Northwest, massive additions in the kettle and again in the fermenter lend their characteristic grapefruit and pine resin aromas. A significant malt body balances this hop presence; together with the signature fruity aromas of Bell’s house yeast, this leads to a remarkably drinkable American-style India Pale Ale.

Tasting Notes: Saint-Germain: Nøgne Ø: Rhub’IPA

Saint-Germain Nøgne Ø Rhub’IPA

Saint-Germain: Nøgne Ø: Rhub’IPA (France: IPA: 6.9% ABV)

Visual: Clear at first glance, but if held up light then the light reflects off light sediment within. Large white crisp bubbled head. Some carbonation.

Nose: Floral. Dry lemon. Light crisp bitterness. Lightly wheaty. Pineapple.

Body: Light tartness and bitterness mix. Subtle rhubarb that rises as time goes on. Pineapple. Slight granite edged base. Sweet peach syrup taste and texture.

Finish: Sugared rhubarb pie. Moderate bitter hops. Grapefruit touch. Dry unleavened bread. Lemon. Dried apricot and peach.

Conclusion: I have always been a sucker for a good stick of rhubarb, all the way back to my young ‘un days. My love of IPAs, well that came later – but it is still a long time allegiance.

Inferno, another word for Hell; a good name for a beer? Perhaps as an adjective; hellish good or if you’re American, Hell Good. I’ll stick with Dante’s 14th. Century vision and the then current perception of Hell as a massive funnel boring into the center of the earth and divided into nine levels of sin and try and place the beer somewhere there.

Craft Beer Review – Dieu Du Ciel & The Alchemist Moralité IPA

Dieu Du Ciel & The Alchemist Moralité IPA: Is an American IPA style beer collaboration with two great brewers, one known for Heady Topper which is one the most highly regarded IPA’s in North America and the other known for a great line up beers. I drank this within about 1 month of the bottling date, which is pretty good considering it was bottled back east and arrive in stores fairly quickly.

Aroma and Appearance: It pours a cloudy amber gold colour with one finger of foam and a few bubbles. The aroma is fruity, with melon and peaches with a hint of bread dough.

Flavour: This beer features an intense citrus zesty hop forward flavour up front with hints of melon and cantaloupe in the middle. Its finish is quite bitter, highlighting notes of grapefruit rind, piney wood resin and bits of lemon on the aftertaste.

Beer – #602 – Tuatara – London Porter

It begins. Winter. Porters. This one the London Porter from the nice people at Tuatara, and by local FYO station.


Our Porter has plenty of chocolate and roast malts to provide lots of body and a healthy shade of dark. Best served how the Poms like it; flat and a few degrees warmer

Which is a bit offensive, Poms (English people) do not drink ‘warm’ beer, they typically drink ‘Bitters’ that are brewed and served at cellar temperatures, which is colder than normal room temperature and not fridge chilled. Also Top fermented, unlike bottom fermented lagers. Trust me on this.

This is a handy 5%, ABV  and so only 150 calories a serve size, and 33 IBU things, right in the middle of the 20-40 bracket,
